From sheet music struggles to teaching millions by gamifying piano lessons
Hey, I'm Sean, the founder of HDpiano.
HDpiano was born out of my frustrations with traditional piano lessons. I was fed up with sheet music and tired of the same old classical songs. It felt like there was always a piece of paper standing between me and sounding good.
I learned piano fastest with a friend showing me how to play, so I could watch and learn visually. Once I mastered a song, I loved teaching others the same way. But I didn't always have a friend there to teach me side-by-side.
Then I thought about games like Guitar Hero, where notes fall down the screen, and I got that same feeling of a friend showing me how to play. I thought, "Why can't you learn piano this way?" So I created my own prototype back in 2008 with falling notes showing you how to play a song on piano and it was an instant YouTube hit.
Since then, we've continued to invest more and more into our content and community, teaching millions along the way. Each lesson begins with the instructor showing you the most iconic part of the song before breaking it down into smaller sections. This interactive approach, combined with music theory insights, makes learning feel like a one-on-one lesson.
If you feel like HDpiano is your buddy sitting next to you at the piano and showing you how toplay something cool, then we're doing our jobs right.
