Bob Geldof wrote this song about the mass shooting by Brenda Ann Spencer at an elementary school in San Diego in 1979, which in hindsight is seen as one of the first modern mass shootings to take place at a school. When asked why she committed the atrocity, Spencer simply said “I don’t like Mondays. This livens up the day.” In recent years, Geldof has expressed regret about this song, worrying that it made Spencer famous and may have helped to glamorize the idea of a mass shooter.
