Prince originally wrote this song for Apollonia 6, a girl-group he’d created, but decided against using it at the last minute. Upon hearing The Bangles’ first album, Prince offered the song to them, using the pseudonym “Christopher” for a writing credit. Allegedly, Prince attempted to use the song as a bargaining chip to convince Bangles frontwoman Susanna Hoffs to sleep with him.
